Set up SmartSegments in Claude.
Connect your SmartSegments data to Claude, check the connection, then ask questions about your venue's performance.
First, check your plan
Check your plan and choose your setup
Open claude.ai in a web browser and confirm which account you are using.
- Individual account: use the individual steps for Free, Pro or Max. For a paid personal subscription, check Settings > Billing. Free accounts can add one custom connector.[1, 5]
- Team or Enterprise: select your organisation's account and follow Organisation setup. Ask an Owner to confirm the plan; Team owners can check Organization settings > Billing.[6]
Your SmartSegments data and user access must already be configured. Have the authorised Google account ready; for ROLLER, it needs access to the relevant Google Cloud project. SmartSegments can confirm which data is enabled for your account.
01 / Individual account
Individual account setup
Enter the SmartSegments details
Copy the URL exactly, then select Continue if shown.
- Name
- SmartSegments
- Remote MCP server URL
- https://mcp.smartsegments.ai/
Illustrated example, not a screenshot. Enter the name and remote MCP server URL. Review the sign in settings
Review Claude's detected authentication settings. For this Google OAuth connection, choose Sign in now when offered. Keep the detected OAuth client setting unless SmartSegments gives you different instructions. Select Add to save.[1, 2]Illustrated example, not a screenshot. Choose Sign in now, leave the detected OAuth client setting, then select Add. Connect your Google account
Choose Connect beside SmartSegments if sign-in has not started. Use your authorised Google account, review the permissions and finish sign-in. Check that the connector shows Connected, then go to Test your connection.[3, 7]
02 / Organisation account
Set up Claude Team or Enterprise
An Owner adds SmartSegments for the organisation first. Each member then connects their own authorised Google account.
On Team, an Owner or Primary Owner must add it. Enterprise also allows custom roles with Manage access to Libraries. If SmartSegments is already listed for your organisation, go to Member sign in.[1]
Open organisation connectors
Select the correct organisation in Claude. Open Organization settings > Connectors, then Add > Custom > Web.[1]Illustrated example, not a screenshot. Open Organization settings > Connectors, then Add > Custom > Web. Enter the connection details
Add the name and server URL, then select Continue if shown.
- Name
- SmartSegments
- Remote MCP server URL

Configure Google sign in and add
Review the detected OAuth settings and select Sign in now when offered. Keep the detected OAuth client setting unless SmartSegments supplies specific client details. Select Add. If you see a single form, enter the name and URL and use Add; provide optional client credentials only if supplied.[2]Confirm it is available to members
Check that SmartSegments appears under Customize > Connectors in the organisation account. Adding it in organisation settings makes it available there; each member completes their own sign-in.[2]
Team or Enterprise member
Member sign in
Follow these steps once an Owner has added SmartSegments to your organisation. You do not need to add the connector again.
Connect your own Google account
Open Customize > Connectors, find SmartSegments and select Connect. It may carry a Custom label. Sign in with your authorised Google account and review the permissions.[3]Illustrated example, not a screenshot. Select Connect, sign in with Google, then check for Connected. Check the connection
Confirm the status is Connected. Open a new chat and follow Test your connection to enable SmartSegments and verify your projects and venues.[7]
03 / Test and use
Test your connection and ask a question
Start a new chat. Open + > Connectors and turn SmartSegments on for that conversation. Paste the prompt below and review any tool approval request.[3, 7]
Use SmartSegments to list the projects and ROLLER venues I can access. Show their names and IDs, then ask me which venue to analyse.
Success means Claude calls SmartSegments and returns the expected project and venue names. If it cannot retrieve them, use Get unstuck. Include your project ID if you already know it.
Ask your first business question
Choose a venue, then try one of these prompts. Replace text in square brackets with the name or ID returned above.
For [venue], compare bookings and revenue for the last full calendar month with the month before. Show totals, percentage changes and the main drivers.
For [venue], rank the top 10 products by revenue over the last 90 complete days. Include booking counts and each product's share of revenue.
For [venue], analyse party bookings and revenue over the last 90 complete days. Show average spend per party booking and the strongest packages, then suggest three ways to grow party revenue. Flag any missing data.
Make the numbers comparable
Add this instruction to your question:
“State the exact dates, timezone, currency, date basis, and how revenue, tax, refunds and cancellations are treated. Flag missing or incomplete data.”
For peak trading times, ask for visit date and session time rather than the time the booking was placed.
04 / More questions
Explore marketing and guest behaviour
Build on your first insights with GA4 and more detailed ROLLER questions. Available answers depend on the data and permissions in your connection.
See which marketing channels perform
GA4 availability depends on your authorised Google account and SmartSegments connection. First confirm which properties are available:
Use SmartSegments to list the Google Analytics 4 (GA4) properties I can access, including their names and property IDs.
For [GA4 property ID], compare sessions, key events and purchase revenue by session source/medium for the last full calendar month. Highlight the strongest channels and flag unavailable metrics.
Go deeper into venue performance
For [venue], break down visits and revenue by day of week and session start hour over the last 90 complete days. Identify peak and quiet periods. Use visit dates and session times where available, and explain how revenue is allocated.
For [venue], compare revenue share and average spend per booking for new and returning guests last quarter. Define returning guests and the history used to identify them. If customer history is insufficient, explain the limitation.
Use the project, venue and property IDs returned by SmartSegments when similar names appear. Ask Claude to show the date range, definitions and missing data alongside each result.
05 / Help and reference
Get unstuck
Check the Claude account, connector status and Google data access before retrying.
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Add custom connector is missing | Check the account and plan. Free accounts allow one custom connector. On Team, ask an Owner or Primary Owner; on Enterprise, use an Owner or an authorised custom role.[1] |
| SmartSegments is missing for a member | Use the correct organisation account. Ask the Owner to confirm it was added under Organization settings > Connectors, then look under Customize > Connectors.[2] |
| Google sign in or OAuth fails | Reconnect with the authorised Google account. If it still fails, send SmartSegments the exact error and ask them to confirm Claude's OAuth client settings and callback support. Do not switch to No sign in to bypass an OAuth error.[3, 4] |
| Claude cannot reach the server | Check the URL matches the guide. Ask SmartSegments to check service availability and access from Anthropic's servers. A URL working in your browser does not confirm Claude can connect.[1] |
| Connected but no venue data appears | Ask SmartSegments to check the connected Google email, project permissions and venue setup. For GA4, confirm access to the intended property and that it is available through SmartSegments. |
| Claude gives a generic answer | In the chat, open + > Connectors and enable SmartSegments. Ask explicitly to use SmartSegments and repeat the project check. Review any tool approval request.[3, 7] |
| Totals differ from another report | Compare the same venue, dates, timezone and currency. Check booking versus visit dates, tax, refunds, cancellations, metric definitions and data freshness. |
